A 6th Kingdom.

6kingdoms_icon

That’s it, the Shanghai Disney project is official : we’re getting a new resort.

Some feel sorry for it, some feel doubtful… I feel quiet happy.

Happy because, no matter how many parks they choose to inflate this new resort with, this can only mean a new Kingdom for us. A Kingdom to wait for, speculate about and enventually walk through.

EuroDisney emerged in an internet free era, Hong Kong in an interest free era – due to the general deception its evolving concept triggered.
Shangai should be a very well budgeted Disney venture, and so shall be its internet monitoring.

News will be sparse and rumors numerous and I don’t usually post news on this blog but for a 6th Kingdom, I think I’ll take my chance.
Untill we can start comparing…

What is your Homepark ?

my-homepark1

What is your homepark, what is your Kingdom ?

It is not necessarily the Disney park you enjoy the most or the park you rate the highest. It is the Kingdom nearest to your home, the one your parents took you to the most willingly. It is the Disney park with the most memories. It is the Kingdom you grew up with.

Thing with our Homepark is we build on it our expectations for what a Disney venue should be.

Any other Kingdom is gonna be better or worse based on how it competes with the standards of our Homepark. That is why most Disney fans will almost systematically pick their Homepark as their favorite Disney park.

Because we always want people to know which park we feel to closer to, 5 Kingdoms designed those modest badges so that you can share it with everybody visiting your website, blog, social networking profiles anything.

All you need to do is add an HTML code and answer that simple question :

What is your Homepark?

Took you half a sec to answer, then Add your badge now !

Welcome to D23…

The conference did talk about the eventuality of having D23 events in oversee Theme Parks but until then… not sure how foreign fans will be reached out. But this initiative, if successful, should really delight the US fans until it spreads out to the subjects of the other 3 Kingdoms.

Naked Main Street

perspective_main

For more than 3 years now, Le Parc Disneyland’s Main Street perspective has been inhabited by the Disney Princess/15th Anniversary Poles. But one month ago, they’ve been put away for an overhaul that would deck Disneyland Paris upcoming celebration : Mickey’s Magical Party !

perspective_compare1

So is the french Main Street finally naked ?

Yes ! But only for a time being ! The new posts spoted below will osbtruct this unique vista again once their third makeoever is complete.

It’s sure sad this Main Street is not allowed to work its Wow like the Imagineers and Disney before them wanted it to.
But the poles only come back late March, so if you can visit the park before then, make sure to see a Disney wonder no other Kingdom has ever dared altere : Main Street Perspective

Hong Kong Disneyland Satellite Picture !

hkdl_satelite_illustration

It seemed like this imagery would never show up… At last: Hong Kong Disneyland seen from the sky.

It obviously dates from a few months before opening, by clicking on the image itself, you’ll get a higher definition of the 5th Kingdom.

By licking here, you’ll get a picture encompassing the whole resort on which we can notice a lot of land is left. Easy to guess where the second gate would go.

Google Earth 5 and Disney History !

What is it with this guy and Google Earth ?

I just love watching my favorite theme parks from the sky. Helps me build my articles when checking for attractions placing and layout. But little did I suspect that it would help the historical side of my pieces !

That’s right ! starting today with Google Earth 5 you can browse satellite imagery by places… and dates.

Go above Disneyland for instance, click the history button (yeah the little clock as usual) and scroll back the years as far as 1995 to see how Disneyland was layed out back then !

Scrolling through the years...

Scrolling through the years...

That is another new enormous tool for the whole international community, certainly not only Disney !

But that is for sure where will start my time travel satellite exploration !

Boy are we gonna have fun above the Walt Disney World Resort…

Go check it out !

Sorry for another Google Earth news…

3 Partners Statues

On november the 18th 1993, Disneyland lavishly inaugurated its newest addition. It was not an attraction, neither a restaurant or even a store but just a statue. Designed by former Imagineer Blaine Gibson, Partners was placed in the center of the hub where it still stands today.

The date was chosen to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Steamboat Willie, the first distributed Mickey Mouse short. Later on 2 other parks would receive it to mark a celebration. Walt Disney World got its Partners for its 1996 25th anniversary and Tokyo Disneyland for its 1998 15th. Though Orlando planted its partners in the center of its hub like Disneyland, Tokyo had it advande at the entrance of its hub.

There is a 4th version of the famous bronze couple but not in a Magic Kingdom.
Disneyland Paris opened one year before the event and therefore couldn’t have its Partners installed at opening, it actually never did. Only in 2002 when Disneyland Resort Paris’ second gate openned did it get its Partners at the entrance of Walt Disney Studios like DF recently explained in this brilliant article.

Hong Kong does’nt hold the Walt & Mickey homage in its Kingdom or Resort. It seems Asian people don’t feel so close to statue as we do. I’ll illustrate those words by the final picture were it is clear that in Tokyo, statues don’t hold the same reverence as in the west…

Thanks to DF for inspiring the idea of this note ;)

How many Restaurants ?

How many snacks, fast food, and fine dining every Kingdom holds ? This many.

Disneyland :
  • Table Service & Buffet : 4
  • Counter Service : 11
  • Stands & Snacks : 6

Magic Kingdom
  • Table Service & Buffet : 5
  • Counter Service : 9
  • Stands & Snacks : 14

Tokyo Disneyland
  • Table Service & Buffet : 10
  • Counter Service: 13
  • Stands & Snacks : 13

Disneyland Paris
  • Table Service & Buffet : 6
  • Counter Service : 12
  • Stands & Snacks : 12

Hong Kong Disneyland
  • Table Service & Buffet : 2
  • Counter Service : 6
  • Stands & Snacks : 4
Undeniably, for its incredible amount of table service locations, Tokyo wins and Hong Kong well, bring some oreos, just in case.

At its opening Disneyland Paris bare many more table service restaurants. It was even marketed as a fine food heaven. But as the park grew more in debt, fine restaurants, one by one,  slowly turned into cheaper quickest dining experiences, letting “Le Royaume” catch up its US and Asian brothers on the counter service figure.

As for the quality and themeing of all those places… That’s for many other articles…

Note : Stands & Snacks numbers vary regularly, I tried not to include the very small stands rarely mentioned and constantly poping up in different places.

Turnstile clicks

These are the attendance numbers for the 5 Magic Kingdoms in the year 2007
Magic Kingdom Park : 17,060,000
Disneyland : 14,870,000
Tokyo Disneyland : 13,906,000
Disneyland Paris : 12,000,000
Hong Kong Disneyland 4,150,000
Out of the top 25 international theme parks numbers, the whole podium (1st, 2nd and 3rd) is held by Magic Kingdoms :)

5 Dedication Speeches

There is always a plaque to unveil, on which lays a speech to tell. These are the 5 dedication speeches of the 5 Magic Kingdoms.

Euro Disneyland
“To all who come to this happy place, welcome. Once upon a time … a master storyteller, Walt Disney, inspired by Europe’s best loved tales, used his own special gifts to share them with the world. He envisioned a Magic Kingdom where these stories would come to life, and called it Disneyland. Now his dream returns to the land that inspired it. Euro Disneyland is dedicated to the young and the young at heart … with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration for all the world.”

- Michael Eisner, April 12, 1992 -
Hong Kong Disneyland

Many years ago, Walt Disney introduced the world to enchanted realms of fantasy and adventure, yesterday and tomorrow, in a magical placed called Disneyland. Today that spirit of imagination and discovery comes to life in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Disneyland is dedicated to the young and the young at heart – with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration, and an enduring symbol of the cooperation, friendship and understanding between the people of Hong Kong and the United States of America.”
